1. About Chandrayaan 3 :

 Chandrayaan 3 was launched on July 14, 2023 by ISRO. It has a lender named,Vikram and a rover named, pragyan.


Why in news?

India's ambitious Chandrayaan 3 mission hit another mark on Wednesday when its spacecraft successfully underwent a fifth and final lunar bound orbit manoeuvre,  which brings it even  closer to the surface of the moon.


Objectives: 

a) to demonstrate  soft landing on the lunar surface.

b) roving on the moon.

c) to conduct in situ scientific experiments on the moon.

* Chandrayaan 1 was launched in 2008.

* Chandrayaan 2 was launched in 2019.








2. Floodwatch App : 


* The central government has launched ' Floodwatch ' app to monitor the situation of flood in the country. 


* It aims to use mobile phones to spread flood -  related information and provides forecast upto 7 days.


* It will collect data from 338 states  to send  real time flood updates across 23 states and UT's.


*The languages will be used both Hindi and English in the maiden time , after that it will be available in regional languages.


* The app uses advance technologies, such as satellite data analysis, mathematical modelling and real time monitoring to deliver accurate and timely flat forecasts.


* This app is built by the Central water commission.







3. Numaligarh refinery 


* The numaligarh refinery is referred to as Assam Accord refinery as its establishment was one of the conditions of the  1985 Assam Accord.


* It is the largest refinery in North East India.


* Present chairman of NRL is Ranjit Rath.


* Currently it has 900 permanent employees and 3000 contractual staff.


Current context:

The ongoing expansion of the Numaligarh refinery to triple its refinery capacity from 3 million metric tonnes  per annum to 9 million metric tons per annum is set for completion in March 2025.

5. Thar desert


* The Thar desert is located partly in Rajasthan and partly in the Punjab and Sindh Provinces of  Pakistan , covering 200,000 square kilometres of territory.


* It is the world's 20th largest desert and the world's 9th largest hot subtropical desert.


* The Sahara desert could increase in size by over  6,000 square kilometres annually by 2050.




6. Veterinary science education:  Growth and development 


* Lord Mayo (viceroy of India) took the first initiative to develop veterinary medicine with professional supervision in 1868.


* Formal veterinary education in India began in 1862 with the establishment of an army veterinary school in Pune.


* The first civil veterinary school was started in babugarh ,UP in 1877.


* The first veterinary College was started at Lahore, now in Pakistan, in 1882.


* The first veterinary College in India, the Bombay veterinary College, was established in 1886.


*The Indian Council for Agricultural Research was established in 1929.


* Government of India created the Department of Agricultural and Research and Education under the Ministry  of Agriculture to facilitate Agricultural Research and Education.


* In Assam,  the first veterinary College, Assam veterinary College was established in 1948. in 1950, it shifted to Chenikuthi , Guwahati.  In 1960 , again it shifted to Khanapara ,Guwahati.


* Assam Agricultural University was established on 1 April 1969.
