1. Assam Vaibhav Award: 

Current news: 

Eminent oncologist Dr. Tapan Saikia was presented the Assam Vaibhav Award by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Dr. Saikia has rendered immense contribution towards generating awareness and early detention of cancer in Assam and other North- Eastern states .

About Assam Vaibhav Award: 

*Assam Vaibhav is the highest civilian award of Assam .

* The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, and the recipient can avail medical treatment throughout his life at government expense.

* On 2 December 2021 , Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared the award on the occasion of 'Assam Divas'.

* The first recipient of this award was Ratan Tata (2021)

2. Approval of Finance Bill .

Current news: 

The Lok Sabha approved the Finance Bill 2023, with 64 official amendments including providing tax relief to some taxpayers opting for new tax regime, and removing long- term tax benefit for debt mutual funds to bring them at per with other interest earning instruments.

About the Bill: 

* The bill will effect from April 1.

* If a taxpayer has an annual income of Rs 7 lakh he or she pays no tax. But if he or she has income of Rs 7,00,100 he or she pays tax of Rs. 25,010 . Thus additional income of Rs 100 leads to tax of Rs 25,010.

* Other amendment include raising the tax rate on royalty and fee for technical services from 10 percent to 20 percent.

3. AFSPA

Current News:

The Union Home Ministry on Friday extended for six months the ‘disturbed area’ status in parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. 

4. Boundary meet

Current News: 

* Regional committees formed to resolve the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary dispute . On this event Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika and Arunachal Pradesh Minister Mama Natung were present. Hazarika said these committees were able to arrive at an amicable resolution to a dispute over four villages bordering Biswanath and Pakke Kessang districts.
