Ans: The word Moamoriya has originated from the word 'Mayamara'.Mayamara was the name of a Vaishnava Sattra. Primarily the people belonging to the Moran tribe were the disciples of this Sattra and they are known as Moamoriyas.

3.What resulted in the division of the Sattriya Movement?

Ans:After the Mahaprayan of Sankardeva, the disagreements and infighting among his disciples resulted in the division of the Sattriya Movement into four Songhotis. They are:Brahma, Purush,Kaal, and Nika. Mayamara Sattra was within the fold of the Kaal Songhoti.

Ans: The causes of the Moamoriya Rebellion are:

a) Change in the religious policy of the Ahoms: The chief deity of Ahom was Somdev. With the passage of time they were attracted towards the Hindu religious traditions. Jayadhwaj Singha accepted Satradhikar Niranjandev of Auniati Sattra as his religious preceptor.

     Later , Gadadhar Singha changed the earlier policy of the Ahoms.He was amazed by the power and position of the Satradhikars. He took steps to curtail the power of the Satradhikars and the Sattras.

         King Rudra Singha again changed the policy whereby all the exiled, oppressed and run- away Satradhikars were brought back and established in Majuli.

        During the reign of Shiv Singha , Queen Phuleswari known as ' Bor Raja' became very powerful. Shaktism got the opportunity to flourish during this time.The Sudra Mahantas were repressed on royal orders.For example, even the disciples were tortured and forced to wear tilak from the blood of sacrificed animals have also been found.The consequence of such torture was the Moamoriya Rebellion.
