What is prejudice?
Prejudice means a biasad opinion based on insufficient knowledge. It comes from the words 'pre' and 'judge'. Therefore ,making a judgement before knowing any detail is prejudice.
What is stereotype?
Stereotype means an overgeneralised and preconceived idea or impression of the characteristics of a person or a community. It is like forming an image about something without a proper knowledge.
DR. APJ ABDUL KALAM ?
" I inherited honesty and self-discipline from my father; from my mother ,I inherited faith in goodness and deep kindness as did my three brothers and sisters" - Abdul Kalam.
Former President APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 to a boat owner, in Rameswaram, located in Tamil Nadu. He came from a poor background and started working at an early age to supplement his family's income. After completing school, he distributed newspapers. He was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn. He spent hours on his studies, especially mathematics.
He graduated in Physics in 1954. He then moved to Madras in 1955 to study aerospace engineering . He later became the leading space and nuclear scientist of India.
DALIT ?
Dalit is a word used for the people belonging to the shudra caste. Dalit is a Hindi word which means oppressed. In simple terms dalits are those whose personality was broken and crushed by other classes due to social prejudice. The government identified all such classes in different parts of the country and made a list which is called ' Scheduled Castes'. This was done so that they could be helped to live a life of equality in modern India.
What is a constitution?
The constitution is the book which lays down rules for governing the country.
DR BHIM RAO AMBEDKAR ?
Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born in a small village called Mhow near Indore in Madhya Pradesh. He was originally from one of the oppressed classes. He managed to get Education and was the first of his community to complete his graduation in India. He went to Columbia University and then to London School of Economics.He was a brilliant student and studied law, economics, history, and sociology. He was chosen as the chairman of the drafting committee formulated to draft the Constitution of India.
He encouraged dalits to send their children to schools and get higher education. He motivated them to take on jobs . He led the dalits to gain entry into temples from which they were debarred. He was a strong believer of equality and wanted the dalits to shed their caste- based professions and move towards a society based on respect for all.
What is gender inequality?
Gender inequality means that men and women are treated differently. For a long time, in most of the societies , the males have been considered superior to the females.
Some ways of given preference to the boys are :
1) More love and care at home.
2) Given better diet.
3) Provided higher education.
4) Allowed to go out and take up employment.
What are the steps taken by the Government to establish gender equality?
The government has been taken some steps to establish gender equality. These are :
1) Equal wages for equal work.
2) Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campain.
3) Health programmes for women.
4) Sukanya Samridhi Scheme.
Fundamental Rights Against Discrimination
There are six fundamental rights provided by our constitution. These are as follows:
1) Right to Equality.
2) Right to freedoim.
3) Right against exploitation.
4) Right to freedom of religion.
5) Right to constitutional remedies.
6) Cultural and educational rights.
