Ans: The fundamental duties are explained in bellow -
a) To abide by the Constitution and respect the National Flag, National Symbol:The National Flag and the National Anthem is the pride of our nation. It is our duty to show respect and stand up while hoisting the National Flag and while singing the National Anthem. The National Anthem should be sung in 52 seconds.
b) To cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspire our national struggle for freedom: Several great and noble leaders have sacrified their lives for our freedom. It is our duty to show respect and follow the noble ideals of these great leaders.
c) To uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India: India is a land of varied religions, languages and cultures. It is our duty to be tolerant towards other religion and show respect to other culture.
d) To defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so : We feel safe at home when it is secured. Similarly citizens can live peacefully only when the country can be protected from foreign enemy. It is the duty of every Indian citizen to perform the noble duty of defending the country. Therefore from a tender age children should be encouraged to join in activities like cub bulbul, scout-guides, N.C.C. etc. to arouse the spirit of patriotism. Such activities help in developing qualities like discipline, patience, sympathy together with the spirit of patriotism.
e)To promote common brotherhood of all the people and denounce any practice derogatory to the dignity of women: There are different languages, religions, cultures and environments in India but the Indian ideology is one. Therefore it is our duty to promote the common brotherhood of all people to live in harmony.
It is our duty to protect the dignity of women by preventing social practices which harm the dignity of women because women are our mothers and sisters.
f) To value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture : It is the duty of every Indian citizen to respect and preserve the rich heritage found in every nook and corner of our country. India has great monuments like the Taj Mahal and the 600 years old Ranghar and Karen ghar of Ahom rule. The architecture of these monuments are significant. It is our duty to study about these magnificent monuments and preserve them.
g) To protect and improve the national environment and wildlife and to have compassion for living creature: It is our duty to protect the environment from global warming, maintain ecological balance and preserve natural resources like forest, lake, rivers, etc. We must take measures to improve the natural environment with its wildlife and have compassion for all living creatures.
h)To develop scientific attitude and spirit of humanism among the citizens : It is the duty of every Indian citizen to remove social evils through education and develop scientific temper. Education is said to be the yardstick of social development. Education is the key to social development. Education helps in the removal of social evils and superstitions and can lay the foundation of scientific attitude. It is also our duty to provide an environment at home where a child can develop human values.
i) To safeguard public property and renounce/adjure violence :
It is the duty of every responsible Indian citizen to protect public property like- offices, bank, hospital etc. Mahatma Gandhi has won the hearts of people through non-violence. Values based upon the principles of non-violence inculcates moral qualities like affection, sympathy, kindness, tolerance among each other. Inculcation of such qualities can create a peaceful environment. It is therefore the duty of everyone to take the path of non-violence and inculcate moral values.
j) To strive towards excellence of individual and collective activity so that the nation prospers :Excellence of an individual or a family rises the family to higher levels.Therefore, it is the duty of every citizen to strive and work for one's development and also to work collectively for the development of the nation. Therefore, the contribution of the citizen in developmental areas like - technology, scientific inventions, economic, political, transport and communication and cultural is necessary for the prosperity of the nation.
