PM-AJAY is a 100% Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in FY 2021–22 with the objective of promoting the socio-economic and educational empowerment of Scheduled Caste communities.

The scheme was created through the merger of three earlier Centrally Sponsored Schemes:

- Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY)

- Special Central Assistance to Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCA to SCSP)

- Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatrawas Yojana (BJRCY)

The scheme focuses on reducing poverty through employment and income-generation opportunities, improving socio-economic indicators and providing infrastructure and essential services in SC-dominated areas. The Government has also launched the PM-AJAY Portal and Mobile App for better implementation.

2. KAZIND-2026 India–Kazakhstan Military Exercise

A 60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent departed for Oskemen, Kazakhstan, on 28 September 2026 to participate in the ninth edition of Exercise KAZIND.

The exercise is being conducted from 28 September to 11 October 2026. The Indian contingent consists mainly of personnel from the Garhwal Rifles, along with personnel from other arms and services and the Indian Air Force.

KAZIND-2026 focuses on joint counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous environments under a United Nations mandate. Training includes joint planning, air mobility, Unmanned Aerial Systems and counter-UAS operations.

3. India’s Aquaculture Insurance Initiative under PM-MKSSY

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying highlighted the aquaculture insurance component of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY).

India recorded 19.8 million tonnes of fish production in 2024–25, making it the second-largest fish-producing country in the world. Aquaculture accounts for more than 74% of India's total fish production.

Under the aquaculture insurance initiative, eligible farmers can receive a one-time incentive of up to 40% of the insurance premium through Direct Benefit Transfer.

For pond-based aquaculture, the incentive is capped at ₹25,000 per hectare, with a maximum incentive of ₹1 lakh for up to four hectares.

SC, ST and women beneficiaries are eligible for an additional incentive of 10% of the incentive payable to the general category.

The initiative is implemented through the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP).

4. DRI Busts Pan-India Gold Smuggling Network

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a pan-India gold-smuggling network and seized 6.61 kg of foreign-origin gold, valued at approximately ₹10.36 crore.

Eleven persons, including a mastermind, were arrested.

According to the DRI, the network had transported approximately 318 kg of smuggled gold worth around ₹475 crore through courier channels during the preceding nine months.

The operation involved locations including Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad. The investigation indicated that the syndicate used multiple small courier consignments to distribute smuggled gold.

The gold was seized under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

Assam Connection: Guwahati featured in the investigation as one of the locations through which courier consignments were routed.

5. India to Participate in AIIB Annual Meeting in Qatar

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on an official visit to Qatar from 27 to 29 September 2026.

She is attending the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Doha on 28 September.

India is the second-largest shareholder of AIIB, and the Finance Minister attends the meeting as India's Governor to the institution.

AIIB is a multilateral development bank focused on infrastructure development and sustainable economic growth in Asia.

- 30-year security – ₹9,000 crore

- 30-year Sovereign Green Bond – ₹3,000 crore
