1. Assam Private Coaching Institutes Rules, 2026


The Assam Cabinet approved the Assam Private Coaching Institutes (Regulation and Student Mental Health Protection) Rules, 2026. Coaching institutes having 50 or more students will be required to register with the District Commissioner.

2. Annual Registration of Coaching Institutes


Under the new rules, registered private coaching institutes will have to renew their registration annually.


3. Mental Health Counsellors in Coaching Institutes


Coaching institutes having 100 or more students will be required to have a qualified full-time mental-health counsellor.


4. District Monitoring Committee


A District Monitoring Committee, headed by the District Commissioner, will monitor private coaching institutes.


5. Integrated DC Office, Kamrup Metropolitan


The Integrated District Commissioner’s Office Building, Kamrup Metropolitan, at Rupnagar, was inaugurated in August 2026. The project cost is around ₹81.20 crore.


6. Solar Power at Integrated DC Office


The new Kamrup Metropolitan DC Office has a 350-kilowatt solar power system.


7. Assam Industrial Relation Rules, 2026


The Assam Cabinet approved the Assam Industrial Relation Rules, 2026.


8. Assam Social Security Rules, 2026


The Cabinet approved the Assam Social Security Rules, 2026, associated with the implementation of the Central Code on Social Security, 2020.


9. Assam State Child Protection Policy, 2026


The Assam Cabinet approved the Assam State Child Protection Policy, 2026, aimed at strengthening the protection, dignity and welfare of children.


10. Assam Juvenile Justice Rules, 2026


The draft Assam Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Rules, 2026 was approved by the State Cabinet.


11. Youth Empowerment and Welfare Department


Assam decided to establish a dedicated Youth Empowerment and Welfare Department focusing on employment facilitation, career guidance, entrepreneurship and leadership development.


12. Separate Sports Department


The existing Sports and Youth Welfare Department is being reorganised as a dedicated Sports Department to give greater focus to sports development.


13. Land for IIM Guwahati


The Assam Cabinet approved the allotment of 574 bighas of land for the permanent campus of IIM Guwahati.


14. Land for Azim Premji University


The Azim Premji Foundation was allotted 200 bighas of land for establishing a university in Assam.


15. Assam Hydrocarbon Policy 2026


The State Cabinet approved the Assam Hydrocarbon Exploration, Production and Upstream Ecosystem Development Policy, 2026.

16. Digitisation of Dairy Cooperative Registration


Assam approved an online digital registration system to make registration of Dairy Cooperative Societies easier and faster.


17. Eight New Co-Districts


The Assam Cabinet decided to operationalise eight new Co-Districts in the state.


18. Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley


The Mini Secretariat, Barak Valley was renamed Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, Silchar.


19. Departments at Barak Valley Secretariat


The Barak Valley Secretariat at Silchar is planned to accommodate 32 departments out of 59 departments.


20. Flood Relief for 31,951 Families


On 17 August 2026, interim flood assistance of ₹15,000 per family was transferred through DBT to 31,951 flood-affected families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat.


Total assistance: Approximately ₹47.93 crore.


21. Total Flood Assistance


Including earlier assistance, around ₹146.26 crore had been provided to 96,842 flood-affected families in the four districts.


22. Teachers for Flood Damage Assessment


Assam deployed 1,144 teachers for surveying flood-related damages.


23. Completely Damaged Houses


The damage survey identified around 2,681 completely damaged houses in the concerned districts.


24. Flood-Affected Farmers


The survey identified approximately 99,256 farmers affected by floods.


25. Assam Independence Day Celebration


The central Independence Day celebration of the Assam Government was held at Khanapara Veterinary College Playground, Guwahati.


26. Viksit Assam–2047


The vision of Viksit Assam–2047 was highlighted as a long-term development vision for the state.


27. ₹1.5 Lakh Crore Infrastructure Investment


Assam announced a target of approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore investment in infrastructure during 2026–2031.


28. State Resources for Infrastructure


Of the proposed ₹1.5 lakh crore infrastructure investment, around ₹50,000 crore is targeted to come from state resources.


29. Central Capital Expenditure


Assam aims to mobilise approximately ₹1 lakh crore from the Government of India for capital expenditure during 2026–2031.


30. Eight New Sub-Districts


Eight new sub-districts were announced at Kamalpur, Barhampur, Ranganadi, Sissiborgaon, Chabua-Lahowal, Khumtai, Katigorah and Barkhola.

40 revenue circles in Assam are proposed to be specially notified to protect the land rights of indigenous and native communities.


37. Census 2027 Self-Enumeration in Assam


The Self-Enumeration phase of Census 2027 in Assam began on 2 August 2026 and continued until 16 August 2026.

A total of 11,64,586 households submitted information during the Self-Enumeration phase in Assam.

46. Guwahati–Tezpur Four-Lane Corridor


The Union Cabinet approved a 135.871-km four-lane access-controlled Guwahati–Tezpur Corridor in Assam.


47. Cost of Guwahati–Tezpur Corridor


The project has an estimated capital cost of approximately ₹8,970.20 crore.


48. Emergency Landing Facility


The Tezpur Bypass includes an approximately 4.9-km Emergency Landing Facility (ELF), planned in coordination with the Indian Air Force.


49. Khelo India Samvaad in Assam


As part of National Sports Day activities, “Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat PM ke Saath” was organised/planned across 70 institutions and venues in Assam.


50. Assam Students in Indian Maritime University


The number of students from Assam registering with Indian Maritime University increased from 116 in 2023–24 to 525 in 2026–27, representing roughly a 4.5-fold increase.
