Ans: Utility is what makes an object or substance a resource. Water ,electricity , rickshaw , vegetable and textbook -- all are useful for us , so they have utility.

Ans: Value means worth.

Ans: Time and Technology are the two important factors that can change substances into resources.


 

4.   4.What are Natural Resources?

Ans: Resources that drawn from nature and used without much modification are called natural resources. The air we breathe , the water in our rivers and lakes, the soils, minerals are all natural resources. Many of these natural resources are free gifts of nature.

 



5.What are actual resources?

Ans: Actual resources are those resources whose quantity is known. These resources are being used in the present. The rich deposits of coal in Ruhr region of Germany and petroleum in the West Asia , the dark soils of the Deccan plateau in Maharashtra are all actual resources.

 



6.WHAT ARE POTENTIAL RESOURCES?

Ans: Potential resources are those whose entire quantity may not be known and these are not being used at present. These resources could be used in the future. The uranium found in Ladakh is an example of potential resource that could be used in the future.



7. What are biotic resource?

Ans: Resource which have life are known as biotic resource.




8. What is abiotic resource?

Ans: Resource which have no life are known as biotic resource.



9. What are renewable resources?

Ans: Renewable resources are those which get renewed or replenished quickly.



10. What are non - renewable resources?

Ans: Non - renewable resources are those which have a limited stock. Once the stocks are exhausted it may take thousands of years to be renewed or replenished.



12. What are human made resources?

Ans: People use natural resources to make buildings , bridges, roads, machinery and vehicles, which are known as human made resources. Technology is also a human made resource.



13. What is human resource?

Ans: People are human resources. Education and health help in making people a valuable resource.



14. What is human resource development?

Ans: Improving the quality of people's skills so that they are able to create more resources is known as human resource development.



15.What is resource conservation?

Ans: Using resources carefully and giving them time to get renewed is called resource conservation.



16. What is sustainable development?

Ans: Balancing the need to use resources and also conserve them for the future is called sustainable development.

 


 17. Write some principles of sustainable development.

Ans: Principles of sustainable development are -

a) Respect and care for all forms of life.

b) Improve the quality of human life

c) Conserve the earth's vitality and diversity.

d) Minimise the depletion of natural resources.

e) Change personal attitude and practices towards the environment.

e) Enable communities to care for their own environment.
