A study on Indian geography 



This article provides some important facts of Indian geography.


India lying entirely in the Northern hemisphere. It's latitudinal extents 8°4' N to 37°6'N and longitudinal extents 68°7' E to 97°25' E. The tropic of Cancer passes through the country and it divides the country into two equal parts ;i e. North and South.



India has total area of about 32,87,263 sq. km.  It has a land frontier of about 15,200 km. The total length of the coastline of the mainland, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands is 7,517 km .


The southernmost point of the Indian union is Indira Point. The standard meridian of India (82°30E) passing through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. Sri Lanka is separated from India by the Palk Strait and the Gulf of Manner.



India has common border with Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan , Myanmar and Bangladesh.

India shares its borders with the neighbouring states likewise as follows:

1. Bangladesh - 4096 km.

2. China - 3917 km.

3. Pakistan - 3310 km.

4. Nepal - 1752 km.

5. Myanmar - 1458 km.

6. Bhutan - 587 km 

7. Afghanistan - 80 km.






India shares highest boundary with Bangladesh.
