If the Earth stops rotating on its axis , then following effects will be happen :

a)  Only one part would be facing the Sun. It would have remained day on one side and night on the rest.

b) The heat falling on one side of the Earth continuously would have made the Sun facing side extremely hot and the other extremely cold. 

c) Life would not have been possible on the Earth if it was extremely hot or cold.

d) The winds and ocean currents would be very different from what they are.
