Shankaracharya was a great thinker, distinguished philosopher,and the leader of the Hindu revivalist movement of the 19 th century. He gave a new orientation to Hinduism.
Shankaracharya,the propounder of Advaita philosophy and Nirgunabrahman , was born in Kaladi (Kerala).
His famous quote was" Brahma Satyam Jagat Mithya Jivo Brahmatra Naparaha". It's meaning is the absolute spirit is the reality,the world of appearance is Maya.
According to Shankaracharya, knowledge alone can lead to salvation.He wrote commentary on Bhagavad Gita.
His main writings were :
a) Upadesh Shastri.
b) Vivek Chudamani and
c) Bhaja Govindum Stotra.
Shankaracharya was also established mathas at Sringiri, Dwarka, Puri and Badrinath.
